Devin Cook is Blake's nephew, he is the son of Merralee and Bart Cook, their 8th child and only brother to seven sisters. He was born 2 weeks after Jared and was Down Syndrome. Devin was non verbal, never speaking. As he grew, he also developed Autism. The Cook family taught us many lessons as we watched them raise Devin. Devin also taught us many lessons about life. On April 12, Devin was really sick, they called 911 because he was unresponsive. They took him to EIRMC and it was determined that he had double pneumonia. He was admitted to the hospital and kind of rallied for a few hours. On, Friday, April 13, Blake and I went to the hospital to see him and Bart and Merralee. He was doing some better then. I was lucky enough to have my phone and took this picture.
Devin made the sign that he would like 2 large fries from McDonalds. Here are 5 of his sisters watching him eat his fries. L-R Kimberlee, Krystal, Sharla, Brittany and Melanie.
Sadly, Devin took a turn for the worse that evening and passed away the next morning. We are so grateful to have known Devin and learned from him. We are so thankful for the knowledge that he is whole and happy now. I am positive that he is now serving as a missionary in the spirit world.
